Dr. Halverson is a colorectal surgeon in the Department of Surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and an associate professor in the Division of Gastrointestinal and Oncologic Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School. Dr. Halverson earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Utah where she majored in philosophy with an emphasis in medical ethics. In 1993, she received her medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Following her residency training in General Surgery at George Washington University, Dr. Halverson pursued a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, which is where her research interests focused on treating individuals with anal incontinence. Dr. Halverson’s clinical interests include anal incontinence and studying the effects of cancer treatments. Dr. Halverson also specializes in inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal stomas, fecal incontinence, ulcerative colitis and laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
