Dr. Foody earned his MD at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and subsequently completed training in internal medicine at the University of Chicago. After completing a practice obligation with the National Health Service Corps, he returned to join the faculty of the University of Chicago for 15 years. In 2001, he moved to the faculty of the Feinberg School of Medicine, and advanced to the rank of Professor in 2006.
Dr. Foody led the revision of inpatient medical services at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and was instrumental in creating the Division of Hospital Medicine. He maintains a substantial effort commitment devoted to quality improvement and safety. He has chaired the NMH Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee since 2001, leading a complete restructuring of the organization and function of the committee.
Active in the American College of Physicians, Dr. Foody was elected governor for the ACP Illinois Northern chapter in 2007. He is active in national ACP as vice chairperson of the Membership Committee and as a member of the Chapters Subcommittee.
